  • RISE Education Specialist

    Liz Towler

Liz began her teaching career, over 25 years ago, in primary education, after graduating from Liverpool with a BEd (hons) in Education with Literature and Communication.

Liz is a highly experienced, skilled teacher with a proven track record of engaging a wide cross-section of students, both in mainstream and SEND settings, ranging in age from pre-school to young adults. She has vast experience of working in a variety of educational settings (including mainstream, Secondary Pupil Referral Units, alternative education schemes, pre-school playgroups and youth clubs)

Liz prides herself in identifying and removing barriers to learning and developing not only young peoples’ academic skills but their social emotional and mental health, well-being and self-esteem. She is experienced in creating safe environments, conducive to learning.

As a primary teacher for 17 years (predominantly year 6) and later, a member of the SLT, Liz was able to identify, understand and support the issues and anxieties often faced by students transitioning to different classes, key stages and educational settings.

Liz was also instrumental in establishing and developing the inclusion team and associated policies within the school.

This interest in SEMH led Liz to work in a Pupil Referral Unit for over 6 years, where she was a Nurture Teacher to small cohorts of KS3 learners, who were at risk of exclusion. She qualified as a Nurture Practitioner and is an advocate of the importance of Nurture based support.

Working closely with the Outreach Team, Liz provided invaluable assessments and detailed, comprehensive reporting documents, containing bespoke strategies to support young people with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
